Michael Stanly is a Project Manager and Senior Managing Consultant in the supply chain practice of IBM Global Services. Included in Mike’s work career is nearly 20 years with two major, international food manufacturing and distribution companies, where he served first as a division director of materials management, and later as vice president of strategic sourcing and logistics. With a primary focus on strategic sourcing and commodity raw materials, he was also responsible for risk management with futures, options, and derivatives; transportation management; quality assurance; and, inventory management. Prior to his IBM work, Mike contributed to clients’ strategic sourcing and hedging needs as a consulting manager with a leading, global consulting firm whose focus is strategy and organization. There, he led the client capability-building initiative for the firm.
A hallmark of Mike’s work has been supply management transformation and supplier management and development. His work in commodity hedging has been particularly followed by those in the industry with price risk management needs. Governance, policy, and process design have been key concentrations in Mike’s risk management work. He has addressed organizations in the USA, Canada, Mexico, Venezuela, Switzerland, and Italy on issues of supply management leading practices implementation; has taught purchasing at the graduate school level; and, has been a regular writer for several supply chain periodicals.
